Introducing Myself During Transition

Dear Readers,

I am going to tell you a little bit about myself while my two children who are under 4 years old are sleeping for a short period of time. Bare with me, this could get choppy! But never fear, it will be interesting!

As you may have noticed, I am a mother of two little girls ages 7 months and 3 years old. I have been a stay at home mom since I was pregnant with my 3 year old, which makes it about 4 years now. I suppose it is every working mom/wife's dream to stay at home, at least it was mine. And like any stay at home will tell you, after year two I started going crazy from the isolation. Aside from going a little nuts, I needed to find something to do to stay sane. I have always been an artsy person and started exploring crafts after I moved out of my parents house.

So the sane hobby became crocheting. I picked up a book on how to make amigurumi (crocheted dolls in the round) and it all took off from there! It was hard at first, but with much passion and determination I got it. Now here I am, 3 years later and making all kinds of stuff for people.

Making a lot of stuff and mastering it to my liking can make it a little boring. So it was time to find a higher cause for this crafting charade. My heart in recent years has been going out to Africa and the orphan children. I read somewhere in all that "kid" literature that children with dolls cope better with what happens to them. They explained it is because they use their dolls to reenact their life problems and process it mentally rather than bottling it up. After much pondering in what free mind time I can find outside of questions, story books and crying, I figured I wanted to sew/crochet dolls for those orphans in Africa.

So to sum it all up I crochet because of my girls and I love it and I want to do charity dolls. So in order to create money to send these dolls (which is about $5 a doll to go overseas, not including sending it to the people that will ship it) I am going to sell my creations and hopefully even sell patterns. Why am I excited about patterns? Because it's more economical and less time consuming for myself as a mom. My goal is to use free time to do this aside from spending life with my family. Not the other way around.

Thank you for reading and getting to know me better.

-Rae

PS: I didn't have time to mention this but my husband recently got a job offer in San Francisco and we are currently in the middle of moving. I'll try my best to post when I can until we are officially moved! Thanks.
